The “Running a Global Film Event” Manual?

What is the “Running a Global Film Event” Manual?

This manual shows how you can use films, documentaries and campaigning videos to promote your work and that of other local NGOs.
By working in partnership with:

  • Local cinemas and film clubs
  • Speakers, to put the film and issues into context
  • Audience discussions after the film screening

Who is the Global Film Manual aimed for?

  • Groups working in human rights, fair trade, social justice, ecology and peace.
  • Campaigning groups and NGOs, such as Amnesty International, UNA or WDM.
  • Development Education Centres (DECs)
  • University and college-based groups that work in this field, such as People and Planet.

Are you putting on - or considering - events to raise awareness of your work to a wider audience? This might be:

  • Fund-raising occasions
  • Themed events, such as Refugee Week or World AIDS day
  • A programme of linked events.

How to use the Manual

  • The Manual consists of 25 pages in five sections that detail how to set up and run film events. It can be viewed onscreen or downloaded as a word document.
  • The NGO Appendix lists around 150 groups to work with and who could provide speakers. Each listing has contact details and a website link.

The manual’s five sections can be used separately if you have particular areas to work on:

  1. Setting up the project
  2. Selecting  films with global themes
  3. Finding speakers for your event
  4. Preparation and promoting the event
  5. Running the event and follow up work

For contact details please see page two of the Manual.
